Abasto

El viejo mercado -cuyo edificio, en el más puro estilo "art-déco", data de los años '30 y fue considerado "la catedral moderna de América Latina"- ha sido convertido en un gran shopping-center. Aquí tiene lugar todos los años, en abril, el Festival Internacional de Cine Independiente de Buenos Aires.
The old market's building, in the purest art-decó style of the '30ties, and called "the modern cathedral of Latin America", has been converted into an important shopping mall that become every April the setting of the Buenos Aires International Independent Film Festival.

El barrio está poblado de pequeños teatros underground, bistrós y ateliers de artistas plásticos. Se está construyendo allí el mayor centro cultural de la Argentina.
In the quiet nearby area you can find several underground theatres, bistrós and painter's ateliers. The largest cultural center of Argentina is being built there.

La casa está ubicada en Palermo Viejo, un barrio tradicional de Buenos Aires, que conserva el encanto de callecitas tranquilas y arboladas, viejas casonas restauradas y es al mismo tiempo
el epicentro de una gran movida cultural, donde se dan cita el
diseño de avanzada, la vida comunitaria barrial y las nuevas tendencias en gastronomía.
Así, a pocas cuadras pueden encontrarse sofisticadas tiendas
de moda, muebles, artesanías, animadas ferias callejeras, bares, bistrós y restaurantes étnicos, barras de tapas, librerías y tiendas de discos abiertas hasta altas
horas de la noche.

DomusBa está situada asimismo a pocos minutos a pie de Barrio Norte, un animado barrio que cuenta con un importante centro comercial, Alto Palermo, y cerca de la zona de recreación más frecuentada por los "porteños" (los nacidos en Buenos Aires): el Jardín Botánico, el Zoológico, los bosques de Palermo.

A pocas cuadras hacia el sur se encuentra otro barrio típico de Buenos Aires, el Abasto, que fuera el gran mercado de abastecimiento de la ciudad hasta 1984. La rica tradición del barrio cuenta que Carlos Gardel -cuyo nombre lleva la estación del subte "B" que lo atraviesa- inició su carrera aquí, cantando en los bodegones que rodeaban el mercado, entre inmigrantes, guapos y "compadritos", personajes que el tango ha inmortalizado.

Hacia el Este se encuentra el microcentro de Buenos Aires, la zona de negocios, bancos, comercios y oficinas públicas. Hay varias líneas de ómnibus sobre la calle Cabrera que hacen el trayecto en pocos minutos A pocas cuadras está también la estación Bulnes de la línea de subte "D" y la estación Medrano de la línea "B", que llevan a la calle Corrientes, la Plaza de Mayo, San Telmo, Puerto Madero y Retiro.

 The house is located in Old Palermo, a traditional quarter of Buenos Aires, keeping the charm of quiet, tree-bordered alleys and old restored houses and, at the same time, epicenter of a great cultural movement, where advanced design, social life and new tendencies in gastronomy come together. Thus, few blocks away can be found sophisticated fashion, furniture and antiquities shops, handicrafts and lively street markets, bars, bistros and ethnic restaurants, as well as bookshops and music shops that remain open until late.

DomusBA is likewise located only a few minutes walk from Barrio Norte, an animated neighbourhood, site to an important shopping mall, Alto Palermo, and nearby is the open recreation area most visited by "porteños" - Buenos Aires inhabitants-, including the Botanical Garden, the Zoo, the Palermo woods.

Going to the South, also a few minutes walking, there is another typical neighbourhood, -Abasto- which, until 1984, was the wholesale groceries' market of the city. The quarter's tradition and cultural identity are related to Carlos Gardel, who started his career there, singing in pubs and simple restaurants full of immigrants and fancy characters - "guapo", "compadrito"- celebrated by the most famous tangos. His name identifies the nearby tube station.

As regards transport, Cabrera Street itself has several bus lines which take you downtown in few minutes, where busy banking, shopping, administration and service areas are located. A few blocks away of DomusBA you can find Bulnes Station of D-Subway Line, as well as Medrano Station of B-Line, taking you to Corrientes Street, Plaza de Mayo, San Telmo, Puerto Madero and Retiro.
